Our Mission
Farmingdale Water Works is an initiative led by former Mayor, “Butch” Starkie, and fellow residents to ensure we receive affordable drinking water today and in the future.
Our Short Term Goals
We request a public conversation outlining all current expenditures being approved by the board. As well as an explanation of the alternative option currently available from the Suffolk County Water Authority to provide both an updated quality water system and lower individual rates*. This possible agreement with the SCWA could save village residents over four million dollars.
Are the residents willing to let petty politics stop them from long term, economically sound solutions?
What is our goal in the long run?
To let the public know that due to cross town politics they are being disenfranchised and have been left out of the conversation. These issue will effect not only short term economic conditions but the survival of our Village long term. Every day we read in the news about our sole source aquifer being contaminated. The solutions to these hazards run into the tens of millions of dollars. Bethpage water and South Farmingdale Water surround us on three sides. The costs are staggering! It's just a matter of time that the Village will face these same conditions.
Some Facts
- We need millions of dollars to upgrade our aging water system now.
- The current Mayor and Board are voting to spend HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of DOLLARS for upgrades that would cost us ZERO if we teamed up with SCWA.
- As of now, the Board has shut down the public conversation on what the full plan is for our water department.
